Our commitment to privacy
The Speech Shed (ABN 69 121 925 390), based in Cannon Hill, QLD, is committed to protecting the privacy of clients, their families, and website visitors. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). As a health service provider, The Speech Shed is bound by the Privacy Act regardless of business size.
What we collect
When you get in touch through the website enquiry form, we may collect your name, contact details (including phone number, email address, and postcode), your relationship to the participant, NDIS funding type, areas of support of interest, and any other information you choose to provide. Once you are engaged as a client, we also collect clinical and health information that is relevant to assessment and therapy.
How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from the individual, or from their parent, guardian, or support coordinator. This may happen via the website enquiry form, email, phone, or in person during service delivery.
Why we collect it
We collect this information so we can respond to enquiries, provide speech pathology assessment and therapy services, and coordinate care with NDIS plan managers, support coordinators, and other treating professionals — and only with consent. We also collect and use information as needed to meet our legal and regulatory obligations, including NDIS Commission requirements where they apply.
Storage and security
Personal information is stored securely using reasonable technical and organisational measures. Access is limited to those who need it in order to provide the service.
Overseas disclosure
Website enquiry form data is processed using third-party service providers. Email delivery is handled by Resend, and website hosting is provided by Vercel. These providers may store or process data on servers located overseas, including in the United States.
Disclosure to third parties
We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with the individual's consent — for example with a support coordinator, plan manager, GP, or other treating professional — or where we are required to do so by law.
Data retention
As a general guide, clinical records are retained for at least 7 years from the date of last service for adult clients, and until a client who was a minor turns 25, consistent with common Australian allied health practice standards.
